Glenfiddich 30 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky Review

let’s begin

A legend in the Whisky world, this titan of Scotch is full of flavour.

Aged to Perfection

The age statement on this malt is truly something to behold. The Glenfiddich 30 Year lives up to its years.

Glenfiddich do not shy away from bold age statements and also have a 40 year old and a 50 year old in their core range.

The brand is known for their innovation and for pushing the boundaries of Scotch, especially with their Experimental range. This collection explores different ways to mature Whisky and does so with casks that have not often been used in the Scotch industry.

So far this has included IPA casks and ice wine casks. The results have been amazing.

As for their core range, they feature pretty standard malts, some of which are huge sellers across the globe. In fact, Glendfiddich are the third biggest selling single malt in the world. They are also the most awarded Whisky.

They create a typical Speyside malt, with lots of Sherry and fruit flavours. This malt has been matured in Oloroso Sherry casks and Bourbon casks.

The palate is full of oak wood and a delicate sweetness characterised by sweet nuts, Christmas cake and apple blossom.

The nose begins on big bold flavours of Sherry, with lots of cinnamon and spice. Citrus fruits, raisins and figs also appear and add a lovey zest to the overall flavour.

The wood develops into a rich vanilla that is perfectly complemented by thick caramel and orchard fruits. These add a delicious earthy note that brings out more hints of dew covered grass and mahogany wood.

The caramel gives the malt a smooth and mellow mouth feel that is only helped by the time spent in the cask. Marzipan with hazelnuts, almonds and chewy dried fruits adds a lovely depth to the malt.

The finish is bold and lingers on caramel and vanilla. It is sweet until the very last drop but brings out some really great oak notes as well.

This is an amazing malt that lives up to the success of Glenfiddich. The years spent maturing in those casks have not been wasted.
