Eagle Rare 10 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon

let’s begin

Hailing from the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Kentucky, Eagle Rare is a brilliant Bourbon, aged perfectly to 10 years.

Kentucky’s Finest

Buffalo Trace is a well known distillery, making some excellent quality Bourbon. They have been recognised for this consistently over the years and are now America’s most awarded distillery. That’s a pretty big accolade considering how many distilleries there are.

They are found in Kentucky, which is the capital of Bourbon in the States (although don’t tell Tennessee). As well as their own Buffalo Trace Bourbon, the company also makes a whole host of exclusive and often hard to get brands. Their current Eagle Rare brand was original made by Seagrams in the 1970s, before being bought by Sazerac, who currently own Buffalo Trace.

Other brands owned and made by Buffalo Trace include the very popular Buffalo Trace (obviously), the rare George T. Stagg and the even more rare Pappy Van Winkle. Van Winkle is one of those once in a lifetime Bourbons that are so very hard to get but so easy to enjoy.

Eagle Rare isn’t quite as luxurious or hard to source as those, but it is still an amazing Bourbon.

Tasting notes for Eagle Rare 10 Year Old Straight Kentucky Bourbon

Bottle cost: £38.45

The nose begins with notes of oranges and caramelised citrus peels. Cinder toffee takes over, with a slight hint of sweet nuts, in particular hazelnuts and almonds. Dark cherries and a hint of chocolate give it a bit of an edge.

The palate is full of fresh fruit flavours and a lovely smooth honey note. Rich mahogany wood gives it a elegant background and brings in some more refined notes such as leather and oak. It is sweet but not overwhelming and has a wonderful aromatic side as well.

The finish is bold and bright with oak wood and caramel to end.

Eagle Rare is a brilliant Bourbon. It’s not overcomplicated but has a well defined and developed flavour. A hit for those who adore Bourbon and those who don’t.
