Aber Falls Autumn 2021 Release Single Malt Welsh Whisky

let’s begin

The second release from Wales’ second ever distillery, Aber Falls Single Malt Whisky Autumn 2021, is an incredibly interesting malt and a lovely addition to the line up.

Aber Falls Distillery

Based in the village of Abergwyngregyn, Aber Falls Distillery has been many things in its past. Once a slate works, it was then made a margarine factory during the wars and before it was Aber Falls Distillery it was a drinks depot.

Being based near the impressive Aber Falls waterfall and in the foothills of the glorious Snowdonia National Park, Aber Falls Distillery is perfectly located for crafting excellent malt. In fact Abergwyngregyn literally means Mouth of the River in Welsh.

The team at the distillery are proud of their local connections and the deep roots that Aber Falls has in the community.

Growing their spirits

The Aber Falls Autumn 2021 expression is the third whisky released from the distillery. There was also a distillery exclusive released earlier this year and an Inaugural Single Malt. This new whisky has been matured using various casks, including Bourbon, Oloroso Sherry, Pedro Ximenez and virgin oak casks.

Dr Kirstie McCallum, who is Master Blender at Aber Falls, describes this autumnal release as, “The perfect whisky is made up of exceptional ingredients, ideal conditions and well-considered casks made of top-quality wood,”

In particular, the two sherry casks used for this Single Malt have provided a very enjoyable flavour that we’re incredibly proud of.”

Tasting notes for Aber Falls Autumn 2021 Release Single Malt Welsh Whisky

Bottle cost: £26.00

The nose begins with notes of dried fruit, sherry spice and sweet vanilla. There is an aromatic nutmeg and cinnamon heat and a lovely note of oak wood.

The palate is rich and smooth. Honey, caramel and more dried fruits appear. Citrus fruits abound with big notes of oak wood that tie in well with the vanilla. Sweet nuts, candied citrus peel and a dark chocolate flavour also come through.

The finish is full of vanilla, oak wood and lots of sherry.

Aber Falls have crafted a spectacular malt with their Autumn 2021 release. The flavours are well developed and full of life. There is clearly a lot of potential with this littler distillery and we can’t wait to see what they do next.
