Talisker Bodega Series of Single Malt Scotches Launches

let’s begin

Talisker Distillery, on the isle of Skye, have released the first expression in a brand new range of Sherry cask matured malts, called the Bodega Series.

The Talisker Bodega Series

There is an increasing interest in Sherried malts these days, and the Talisker Bodega Series is both a response to that as well as a commemoration of Talisker’s relationship with bodegas in Jerez.

For the uninitiated, a bodega is a huge storage house where Sherry makers stock their wine casks, usually in a solera system.

Most distilleries will have some links to bodegas, as this is one of the main sources of casks for maturing malt.

The Talisker Bodega Series celebrates the relationships that Talisker have with their bodega partners, and this expression was crated with the help of Delgado Zuleta, who are world renowned for their Sherry.

The Talisker Bodega Series begins with a 40 Year Old Single Malt that has been matured in amontillado Sherry casks, which also matured for 40 years.

It has been described by Donald Colville, Talisker global brand ambassador, “This Talisker 40 yo is an exquisite single malt Scotch whisky, which captures the age-old relationships with Delgado Zuleta and the high-quality craftsmanship that took place throughout the creation of this rare expression.

We are delighted to launch this as the first of the Talisker Bodega series and the liquid is something that we are extremely proud of.”

The nose opens with a buttery note, with lots of rich dried fruits and citrus fruits. it is oily and slightly salty, bringing in a little bit of sea air.

There is also a really sweet and saccharine note, like white sugar, with a little bit of heat to it.

The palate is exceptional and overflows with flavour. It begins with lots of sweet fruits, like grapes, raisins and apricots. These are juicy and ripe with plenty of sweetness and a slight sharpness to them that really refines the flavour.

Sea salt and brine also come in, with big notes of peat smoke and spice. The heat and the smoke are incredible, bouncing off one another and really springing to life.

The smoke is thick and pungent, but does not overwhelm the other flavours. It beings with it a smooth mouth feel. Overall the texture is thick and slightly oil, but really smooth and mellow.

The finish is warming and long. It has lots of heat and spice in it, with bit seaside notes and a final nod towards oak and sweet nuts.

This is a remarkable malt with a lot of time and effort poured into it. The perfect add to any Scotch Whisky collection.
