The Hospital Club, London has been crowned the winner of a nationwide competition run by The Black Grouse Blended Scotch Whisky which will see the bar host four of the UK’s most renowned explorers - Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Ben Fogle, Kenton Cool and Olly Hicks.
In celebration of its own distinctive character, The Black Grouse challenged the nation’s bartenders to create their own ‘explorer’ serve, featuring The Black Grouse, alongside an explanation of what makes their bar distinctive and why it would be the perfect venue to host a truly unique evening with four of the UK’s leading adventurers.
The competition demonstrated the versatility of The Black Grouse and Scotch with – infused homemade bitters, foams and smoke filled brandy balloons amongst the entries created. It was The Hospital Club’s ‘Philippa’s Legacy’ serve that impressed the most with bay leaf, nutmeg and cardamom infused through The Black Grouse whisky, combining spices and herbs and dried plum garnish, which provided a cocktail fit for the most avid of flavour explorers. Presented in a vintage glass, the cocktail was inspired by Matthew Gloag’s daughter Philippa, who first designed the bottle label of the parent brand, The Famous Grouse, which became the brand’s distinctive trade mark.
Olly Hicks, Round the World Rower and Marine Adventurer, said
“Any explorer or adventurer has a distinctive character that drives them on to take on new challenges and seek out adventure. Motivation, discipline and a desire to succeed are characteristics we can all identify with and aspire to have. I am delighted to be part of these events with such esteemed individuals as Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Kenton Cool and Ben Fogle and I am looking forward to discussing our experiences in front a live audience at The Hospital Club.”
Johna Penman, Marketing Controller, Maxxium UK, commented:
“This is an exciting opportunity to bring the distinctive character behind our brand to life and connect with consumers with a shared sense of adventure. We partnered with these four iconic explorers to create a unique experience and demonstrate the versatility of The Black Grouse through long mixed drinks.’
Following on from two sell out events at London’s Natural History Museum and Edinburgh’s Hub, the winning bar, The Hospital Club, will open its doors on the 19th February to play host to these intrepid explorers for an intimate ‘in conversation’ event. Customers will get the chance to see a live cocktail demonstration of the winning serve, as well an opportunity to sample it.
