Glendronach Kingsman Edition 29 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

let’s begin

The Glendronach Kingsman Edition: where whisky and action movies collide.

Drinking with the stars

You might be slightly dubious about a whisky that is released to celebrate a movie, but with the Glendronach Kingsman Edition 29 Year Old, you would be wrong to be so.

This is the third instalment in the Glendronach Kingsman line up and was released earlier this year to celebrate the upcoming movie The King’s Man. To be released in 2021, this is the third movie in the Kingsman franchise and is a prequel to the last two.

If you enjoyed the other two Kingsman films, you’re sure to enjoy the third. But more importantly, you will definitely enjoy the Glendronach 29 Year Old Single Malt that goes along with it.

A match made in heaven

Like the Kingsman franchise, Glendronach are going back to their origins with this bottling. It is a 29 year old, taking inspiration from the 29 year old bottling that currently lives in the distillery’s archives. This 29 year old was released in 1913 and has a somewhat tragic story attached to.

Before heading off to fight in World War I, three friends each purchased a bottle of this 29 year old, promising to open them together when they returned. Sadly, only one friend returned from war, and never touched the bottle, which was then gifted back to the distillery by his family.

So this new release is a homage to that bottle, and the distillery have certainly done themselves proud.

TASTING NOTES FOR GLENDRONACH KINGSMAN EDITION 29 YEAR OLD SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY

This expression has been matured in Oloroso sherry casks before being finished in Pedro Ximenez casks. It is bottled at 50.1% and only 3,052 bottles are available.

The nose opens with notes of orchard fruits, fig chutney and sweet caramel. It is rich and smooth, with a wonderful earthy quality.

The palate is mellow and full of natural oak flavours. There is a hint of chocolate and bitter coffee, with some cherry notes and a lovely tart berry jam flavour.

The finish is sweet and oaky, with lots of character. It rounds of really well.

This is an exciting release from Glendronach and is such a pity only 3,052 bottles are available. What a way to celebrate another Kingsman movie!
