The final instalment in the Macallan’s Edition series, Edition 6 is a celebration of the wonderful surroundings of the distillery, in particular the Spey river which runs past.

A really exciting range, the Edition Series has captured some key aspects of the Macallan distillery and their brand.

Let’s take a run down of the first five editions:

Edition 1 celebrates the distillery’s “oak cask management policy” (which sounds a bit drier than it is), which includes everything from sourcing wood to the final cask.

Edition 2 was a collaboration between Master Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno and the three Roca brothers, who together own the El Celler de Can Roca restaurant. The focus with this malt was about celebrating the genius of all of these creators.

Edition 3 was also a collaboration, this time between Dalgarno again, and Master Perfumer Roja Dove. This edition was focussed on the nose and the rich aromas you could experience from enjoying it.

Edition 4 was a bit different and this time celebrates both the history and “new horizons” of Macallan. It brings together the idea that the old and the new are complimentary and celebrates them together.

Edition 5 is a “homage to the diversity and complexity of Macallan’s natural colour”

And finally, we have Edition 6, which is the last in the series and is inspired by the incredible surroundings of the Macallan Distillery. Situated on the banks of the River Spey, the Macallan finds itself amongst the most stunning backdrops. It’s only natural that an equally astounding whisky would be inspired by it.

Tasting notes for The Macallan Edition 6 Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Bottle cost: £81.88

Made with a variety of European and American oak casks, this malt is full of character and truly captures the magnificence of the Spey river.

The nose begins with notes of spicy nutmeg and sweet caramel and vanilla. Oak wood with hints of fruit and warming ginger also appear.

The palate is brimming with cereal notes of toastd oats, cinnamon and toffee. It is comforting and complex at the same time. Vanilla and oak also come through really well and add a lovely sweetness to the flavour.

The finish is bold and lingers on fruit and oak flavours.

Edition 6 is the perfect malt to wrap up a simply brilliant series with. It is full of flavour and wonderfully complex. The Macallan have created a legendary series here and Edition 6 only adds to that.
