let’s begin
Just in time for the cold winter evenings, Royal Salute have released Snow Polo 21 Year Old Blended Grain Scotch Whisky.
First for Royal Salute
In an exciting new release, this is the first time Royal Salute have bottled a blended grain whisky. The brand is well known for their rare and exclusive blends but this is the first time they have bottled and released a blended grain.
Blended grain whisky differs from a traditional blended whisky in that it only uses grain whisky rather than a combination of grain and malt. The category is becoming more popular as people embrace the multifaceted flavour profile of grain whiskies. Haig Club, Hedonism by Compass Box and Nikka Coffey grain are well known grain whiskies.
The trend has clearly taken off and Royal Salute have chosen to explore the grain flavour profile with this new bottling. In the past they have been known for their exceptional bottlings of luxury whiskies. They are owned by Chivas and are based at the Strathisla Distillery in Speyside.
Royal Salute Snow Polo Blended Grain Scotch Whisky
This new limited edition has been released as the third part of the annual Polo Collection.
Sandy Hyslop, Master Blender at Royal Salute commented, “Each of the existing blends within the Polo Collection has their own personality, and the Snow Polo Edition is a standout new addition with an extensive depth of flavour and fresh new look.
Being at the helm of the blending team behind Royal Salute, I’m always looking for new inspiration, and Snow Polo has proven to be one of the richest sources yet for creativity and innovation. To capture the apposition of the intensity of the game against the graceful elegance of the backdrop associated with Snow Polo, it felt like the perfect opportunity to craft the very first blended grain whisky in our portfolio and I couldn’t be prouder of the result.”
Tasting notes for Royal Salute Snow Polo Blended Grain Scotch Whisky
The nose opens with sweet vanilla and caramel. It has a lovely smoothness and the character is bold and exciting. There are hints of malted barley and oak wood that add some depth to the sweeter notes.
The palate draws these out further. Oak really shows itself with big notes of tannins and caramel. Biscuit flavours come through as well. Vanilla and toffee take over and ad a creamy mouth feel.
The finish is bold and full of vanilla and caramel.
This is an exciting blended grain whisky from Royal Salute, perfect for warming yourself in front of the fire, or for sipping at the edge of a polo field if you’d prefer.
