let’s begin
A limited edition follow up to Jameson Black Barrel, Black Barrel Proof is an excellent blend with lots of flavour.
New Limited Edition Jameson
Ireland’s best selling whiskey brand is keeping up with changing trends in an overcrowded whiskey market. In recent years they have been exploring more flavours and maturation techniques to make sure their brand remains on top.
The innovation at Jameson has resulted in some award winning expressions including this year’s Best Irish Whiskey at the International Spirits Challenge. Not long after this win they release Black Barrel 100 Proof, a limited edition of their incredibly popular Black Barrel.
This blend has been crafted using pot still and grain whiskey and has been matured in American oak casks, sherry casks and ex-bourbon casks that have been double charred.
Kevin O’Gorman, Master Distiller at Irish Distillers said, “Jameson Black Barrel is a triple distilled blend of our small batch grain and traditional single pot still Irish whiskey and boasts a robust spiciness, with flavours of butterscotch and fudge.
“Paying tribute to the cooper’s skill, maturing a portion of our whiskey in double charred barrels brings out sweet and spicy characteristics in abundance as [the whiskey] penetrates deeper into the charred oak.”
Tasting notes for Jameson Black Barrel 100 Proof Limited Edition Blended Irish Whiskey
The nose begins with notes of butterscotch, caramel and vanilla oak wood. It is very sweet but not overwhelming. There is a gentle warmth as well, with delicate notes of smoke.
The palate is rich and deep, with sherried notes of dried fruit and spice appearing. Smoke, oak wood, caramel and sweet vanilla abound.
The finish lingers on oak wood and smoke with a nod towards warming sherry spice.
This is a wonderfully developed whiskey that boasts a range of flavours from the sherry and bourbon barrels used in maturation. It is excellently smooth as well, thanks to the traditional Irish method of triple distilling. It is no wonder this expression is so well loved.
