Glenfarclas Stillman’s Dram 2009 Distillery Exclusive Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

let’s begin

A 10 Year Old Single Malt, exclusive to the family owned and run distillery, this Glenfarclas Stillman’s Dram is a wonderous whisky.

Independent Distillery

Glenfarclas Distillery is one of a few family distilleries that are still completely independent and run by the same family, generations later. The Grant family (not to be mixed up with William Grant and his also very successful family whisky brand) have been operating Glenfarclas Distillery in Ballindalloch since it was bought by John Grant in 1865.

Since then the distillery has thrived and is now being run by the sixth generation of Grants. There are a lot of perks to remaining independent and to still being family run. Glenfarclas Distillery can boast its rich history and know all of the details of how it got there, giving it great provenance and a brilliant backstory.

Part of the Community

Not only can Glenfarclas boast its long family history, but it can show how it is an active part of the community. When a distillery has been around for as long as this one, it becomes embedded in the local community.

To celebrate that, the distillery has chosen to donate part of the earnings from every bottle of The Stillman’s Dram sold to Moray Food Plus, which is a local food bank. Being released in 2020, the gesture had even more significance.

The bottling is also available to buy online from BI, making it easier to access when the distillery visitor centre was shut.

George Grant, current Director of Sales for the distillery said, “The impact of the pandemic has been widespread and has affected all in some form or another, so teaming up with BI to ensure the 2020 release was made available to those unable to make it up to the distillery in late April was an easy decision to make.

“The Moray Food Plus was an obvious charity to pick as the work that they do across the Speyside community is nothing short of outstanding.”

The malt has been matured in first fill Oloroso Sherry butts and was aged for 10 years.

TASTING NOTES FOR GLENFARCLAS STILLMAN’S DRAM 2009 SINGLE MALT HIGHLAND SCOTCH WHISKY

Bottle cost: £100.01

The nose begins with notes of caramel apples, oak wood and vanilla. It is full of sherries notes of dried fruits, citrus peel and warming spices.

The palate is heavily sherried and wonderfully sweet. More spices come through, as does an array of orchard fruits and oak wood. Caramel, vanilla and fresh cut grass adds a lovely richness.

The finish is long and lingers on sherried spices and oak wood.

Glenfarclas have not lost their touch in their nearly 160 years of distilling. The Stillman’s Dram is an excellent malt, hitting all the right notes throughout.
