ELECTRIC SPIRIT CO. STRIKES GOLD; SCORES 96/100 AT INTERNATIONAL WINE AND SPIRITS COMPETITION

let’s begin

Achroous, the signature gin from Edinburgh producer Electric Spirit Co. has been named as one of the top seven in the world, winning gold at the highly respected International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC).

Launched in 1969 and celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the IWSC is recognised across the drinks industry as the most prestigious competition of its kind in the world. It receives thousands of entries every year from across the full spectrum of spirits production.

Achroous, created by Electric’s founder and distiller James Porteous, is one of only 32 products to receive the coveted gold medal out of 560 medalling gins. Following the double-blind tasting and chemical analysis of hundreds of entries from around 90 countries, judges scored the gin 96 points out of a possible 100, a rating reserved for ‘excellent spirits with an exceptional balance and rare and complex flavours’.

Commenting on the award, Porteous said: “I’m chuffed to bits and totally gobsmacked. Only a tiny number of spirits receive this medal, and it’s pretty humbling to think I’ve scored higher than some of the big guns of the industry. There’s a baffling number of gins on the market right now, and although I’ve always been really pleased with the feedback about Achroous, it’s something else to hear that you’ve absolutely nailed it by an organisation like the IWSC.”
