Aberlour 14 Year Old Double Cask Matured Single Malt Speyside Scotch Whisky

let’s begin

Part of the Aberlour core range, this 14 Year Old Single Malt has an interesting maturation history.

Aberlour’s Signature

Hailing from the glorious surroundings of Speyside, Aberlour Distillery makes some of the finest whisky in the world. It is currently owned by Chivas Brothers but unlike some of their other brands, like Strathisla or glen Keith, Aberlour is largely released as Single Malts, and not used in their Chivas Regal blend.

Aberlour is quite a traditional distillery on the whole, but that doesn’t stop them from doing intriguing things with their malt. They do not shy away from a challenge when it comes to it, and explore maturation techniques frequently.

This is best reflected in their core range, which consists of multiple age statemented malts, all of which are matured in their double cask process, as well as the heavily sherried Casg Annamh and A’bunadh

Part of that ocore range is their 14 Year Old. This is one of the youngest malts that the distillery makes and is a really sumptuous offering. It has been matured in both Oloroso Sherry casks and first fill American Oak casks, giving it a wood forward flavour profile.

What is wonderful about this malt is how well Aberlour pull off their double casking process. At 14 years, it has a good age to it, one that means it has not been overdone and is in that sweet spot of youthfulness, with lots of flavour coming out.

Tasting notes for Aberlour 14 Year Old Single Malt Double Cask Speyside Scotch Whisky

Bottle cost: £49.95

The noes begins with lots of oak wood, caramel and vanilla. The vanilla is especially present and gives it a brilliant sweetness. Dark cherries and hints of marzipan and sweet nuts also come through.

The palate is full of tart summer berries and sweet notes of caramel and vanilla. It has an almost dessert like quality, full of blackberries and gooey blackcurrant jam. There are delicate notes of oak wood, with a slight hint of spice.

The finish is bold and full of vanilla, oak wood and fruit notes.

This is a dram that goes down easy. It is smooth and sweet, with lots of flavour. Aberlour are excellent at what they do and their 14 Year Old showcases their skills perfectly.
