Aultmore 17 Year Old Small Batch Single Malt Scotch Whisky

let’s begin

Part of the Exceptional Cask Series by Dewar’s, this Aultmore 17 Year Old definitely lives up to the title.

Exceptional Casks

Bacardi Malts owns a total of five distilleries, including Aultmore, Aberfeldy, Craigellachie, Royal Brackla and MacDuff. Typically, they do not release malts from these but rather use the whisky to create blends. With the Exceptional Casks Series, they have bottled some brilliant whiskies from their distilleries to showcase justhow good the malt is.

The series is made up of small batch, single cask malts from various distilleries in the Dewar’s family. It is a celebration of the brand and the malts that go into making it. Each cask has been hand selected by Malt Master Stephanie Macleod.

The Aultmore 17 Year Old is a wonderful part of the Exceptional cask line up. The distillery itself is based in and was first opened in 1896. The malt made here typically has a sweet and fruity body.

The nose begins with big notes of apples and pears. There is a distinctly orchard background to the malt. It has plenty of vanilla and wooded oak notes to bring in a little sweetness. Fresh cut grass gives it a crisp edge and brightens the whole thing up.

The Palate is rich and smooth. Oak wood and caramel take over, making it wonderfully sweet. There are lots of green apples, cherries, peaches and pears to give it a lively fruity flavour. There are hints of sherry spice to add a nice warmth to the body.

The finish lingers on oak wood and sherry, rounding off well.

This is an excellent expression for the Exceptional Casks series. It is bright and mellow, with all the right Speyside notes.
