Offering up something a little different to consumers, Dewar’s have released Caribbean Smooth, a truly unique blended Scotch.

New Flavours

In the drive for innovation taking over the Scotch industry at the minute, Dewar’s have come up with an excellently blended Scotch. It brings together the taste of the Caribbean with the hearty malt of Scotland.

Released in September 2019, this is the first in a what will become a line up of finished blends from Dewar’s.

Master Blender at Dewar’s, Stephanie Macleod, commented: “With its remarkable versatility and unique flavour profile – which features subtle notes of apple, caramel and biscuity cereal that slips into dark brown sugar and tropical fruit – Caribbean Smooth is the perfect spirit to enjoy neat or in a variety of Highball recipes that pair particularly well for epicurean gatherings.”

This is not the brand’s first foray into experimenting with maturation methods. They released the Double Double series earlier this year as a travel retail exclusive. The series celebrates the distillery’s use of double maturation.

Dewar’s Caribbean Smooth 8 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky

This blend is made 40 malt and grain whiskies. These have been matured in oak casks before being finished in
Caribbean rum casks.

The nose begins with notes of coconut, thick dark treacle, caramel and vanilla, it is wonderfully sweet. Oak woods, with delicate hints of floral notes and orchard fruits also come through. Apples and pears add a nice bite and tang to the flavour, really wakening it up.

The palate is creamy and smooth. It is brimming with brown sugar, toasted oak and rum spices. The spice is warming and homely, adding a lovely, gentle quality to the overall mouth feel. More tropical fruits like pineapple and mangoes come in, adding lots of zest and sweetness.

The finish is bold and lingers on rum spice and vanilla oak.

Dewar’s have struck gold with this blend. It is very unique and exceptionally smooth to taste. We can only hope more good will come out of this series.
