let’s begin
An exciting limited edition from the Highland distillery, this malt is excellent.
part of history
The GlenDronach Distillery was first opened in 1826 by James Allardice, who worked hard to make the distillery successful. Unfortunately, luck was not on his side and he actually went bankrupt in 1842.
GlenDronach was passed to Walter Scott, who transformed it into what it is today. It was later sold to the Grant family in the 1920s.
So the distillery itself has a long history, but the Glendronach Port Wood 10 Year Old is also a celebration of a big part of Scotch history. The import of Port casks for use in maturation began in the early 19th century. This transformed how Scotch was matured and allowed for new flavour profiles to be created.
The GlenDronach Port Wood 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Created by the talented Rachel Berrie, Master Blender at GlenDronach, the Port Wood 10 Year Old is wonderful.
It has been matured in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks, before being finished in Port pipes imported from the legendary Douro Valley in Portugal.
Tasting Notes for the GlenDronach Port Wood 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottle cost: £47.46
The nose opens with lots of tart summer fruits, plums and figs. It is rich and well developed, with each flavour melting into the next. There is a slightly aromatic note as well, with a hint of sandalwood and spicy ginger.
The palate is full of fruit and spice. more ginger comes in, with a ginger and carrot cake quality, alongside apple tart and blackberry jam. The sweetness is refined and effortless.
A darker note of cherry and almonds appears, with a hint of dark chocolate and cinnamon.
The finish is rounded and well developed, with more cherries and some dried fruits.
An elegant and well though out malt from GlenDronach, this Port Wood 10 Year Old really stands out. It is an exciting addition to an already great line up at the distillery.

It is one of the most established refineries in the country, and I was to their plant once many years ago. I really like their set up as they have not lost their roots yet.
Greg, would you go with Glendronaugh 10 port, or Glenmorangie 12 Quinta Ruben?
Oooooh good question… probably the GlenDronach…
Thank you,
