Teeling Pineapple Rum Cask Blended Irish Whiskey

let’s begin

Another finishing innovation from the folks at Teeling Distillery, who have also produced whiskey finished with Pinot Noir casks, Balkans Porter casks and Finnish Rye Gin casks.

Collaboration

In the face of mounting competition from a growing roster of new Irish distilleries, Teeling have turned their hand to creating intriguing collaborations. It isn’t uncommon for distilleries to collaborate with others. Whether that’s to release a new dram or to share casks, working with others is a big ethos of the whisky making world.

As the Irish whiskey market continues to grow and more and more new distilleries appear, its becoming even more important that current brands make themselves stand out. One way of doing that is by being unique, and a collaborative finish on a dram is a great way to do just that.

Teeling have a whole range dedicated to working with other brands. Called Small Batch Collaborations, it takes the classic Teeling whiskey, their Small Batch and sees it being finished in different ways, with other producers lending a hand. Included in this range are their Pinot Noir finish, Balkans Porter finish, Rye Gin finish and the Pineapple Rum cask finish.

Teeling Pineapple Rum Cask Finished Blended Irish Whiskey

Finished in Plantation Rum Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple Rum Casks, this is a sweet and smooth dram. The blend is bottled at 49.2% ABV, so it packs quite a kick, but the overall flavour is well developed and not overwhelmed.

The nose opens with dense, sweet notes of pineapple and citrus fruits. Lemon and oranges come through really well, giving it a nice tart edge. There is a delicate note of vanilla and caramel as well.

The palate is earthy, with notes of oak and black pepper. More citrus fruits appear and bring out more of that tart flavour. The pineapple notes are excellent alongside with earthy oak flavours.

The finish is wonderfully sweet, full of oak, pineapple and caramel.

This is yet another excellent bottling from Teeling’s Small Batch Collaborations. The only downside is the limited amount of bottles that get released. All eyes on Teeling for what comes next!
