Harrison Ford Teams Up with Glenmorangie in ‘Once Upon a Time in Scotland’

If you’re a fan of Harrison Ford, 2025 looks like it’ll be a great year for you as you’ll soon be treated to his latest project. No, not the latest Captain America, and no, he isn’t reprising his role as Han Solo either. Although, in this instance, ‘Dram Solo’ would be more appropriate.

As you can probably guess, Ford’s latest venture is into the exciting world of whisky. Specifically, our very own beloved Scotch whisky. Ford, who is himself a huge fan of Scotch, has collaborated with Highland single malt company Glenmorangie, in a new worldwide campaign that is already providing hugely popular.

For the campaign, Ford teamed up with Glenmorangie for an exciting new marketing project entitled ‘Once Upon a Time in Scotland’ in a series of 12 short episodes directed by actor and director Joel Edgerton. Having checked out the first several episodes, I can say with great certainty that it gets the Great Drams seal of approval.

When Two Icons Collide

Harrison Ford is a Hollywood megastar and is still one of the most in-demand leading men in Tinsel Town. The list of acting credits to his name is endless and includes blockbusters such as the original Star Wars franchise, Indiana Jones, Blade Runner, The Fugitive, and so many more besides.

Ford, who is now 82 years of age, shows little sign of slowing down. This in itself is remarkable considering the man has enjoyed a career over the last seven decades. He is the very epitome of an icon. While we’ve recently been treated to him on the big screen in Captain America: Brave New World, his next role is something a little more unique, as he will be starring in a marketing and advertising campaign for another icon, this time from Scotland, in the form of Glenmorangie single malt Scotch whisky.

The campaign was shot last summer in the rugged Scottish Highlands and was directed by Joel Edgerton and is entitled Once Upon a Time in Scotland. It sees the grouchy Ford jet across the Atlantic to the Scottish Highlands to the Glenmorangie Distillery to enjoy an authentically Scottish experience and see Scotland’s whisky country in all its glory.

Once Upon a Time in Scotland

This latest project is Glenmorangie’s new campaign to replace their very popular It’s Kind of Delicious and Wonderful campaign. It marks the beginning of a three-year partnership with the Hollywood legend and takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to the world of marketing and advertising.

Joel Edgerton deliberately encouraged Ford to improvise a lot of his lines and the campaign itself is shot in a very unconventional, “off-script” sort of way. Spanning 12 episodes in total, it sees Ford visiting Scotland to shoot a whisky advert and gradually begin to embrace the Scottish way of life and the traditions that go with it. Expect bagpipes, stags, weathered Highland settings, kilt wearing (controversial at that), castles, roaring open fires, and of course, plenty of Glenmorangie whisky along the way.

The episodes were filmed in the Scottish Highlands at the Glenmorangie Distillery in Tain, along with the stunning backdrop of Loch Glass, and 19th century Ardross Castle, which UK viewers may recognise from hit BBC series The Traitors. Without giving too much away as you really need to watch for yourselves as it’s so great, this is Harrison Ford as you’ve never seen him before, with plenty of self-deprecating humour thrown in along the way.

Oh, and about THAT kilt controversy. One of the episodes sees Harrison being gifted a kilt during his stay. The kilt is left on his bed accompanied by a note which reads ‘From Your Friends at Palace’. This is where the controversy arises as Palace are an English streetwear company who specialise in skateboarding clothes.

Needless to say, neither England nor skateboarding are generally associated with Scotch whisky. This has left a few Scotch whisky purists with a rather bitter taste in their mouths.

The Real Stars of the Show

Of course, for an advertising campaign of this magnitude, not even a Hollywood name like Harrison Ford can steal the spotlight. No, that role is for reserved for Glenmorangie single malt Scotch whisky.

Two of the whiskies taking centre stage here are Glenmorangie Original 12 Years Old and Glenmorangie Infinita 18 Years Old.

These are two of the distillery’s most popular drams. The Original 12 for example, is a reimagining of their flagship original, now aged 12 years instead of 10. It’s heavy on the citrus, providing plenty of orange zest, Jaffa cakes, marmalade, honey, vanilla, and dark chocolate with buttery, pastry undertones.

The 18-year-old Infinita however, is even more special. The work of the uber-talented whisky maker Bill Lumsden, each sip provides a completely different tasting experience. There’s orange zest and orange blossom honey, sticky dates, caramelised brown sugar, candied orange and lemon peel, wild Scottish heather, and a sprinkling of toasted oak to finish. Amazing mouthfeel with this one. I can certainly see why Harrison is such a fan.
