Glen Moray Reveals Limited Edition Maple Syrup Finish at Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival

For over 125 years, Glen Moray has been defined by its spirit of discovery – continually exploring the  possibilities of cask maturation. Now the Elgin distiller has broken new ground with two limited edition  expressions, finished in Canadian maple syrup casks. A first for the distillery, these bold releases fuse the  sweet richness of maple syrup with Glen Moray’s Speyside character, continuing its tradition of pushing the  boundaries of ageing and exploration.

The unique bottlings will come in peated and non-peated variations and both combine Glen Moray’s  distinguished smooth and fruity personality with indulgent, syrup-rich depth. The rare spirits will first be  available at Glen Moray Distillery during the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, running from 30 April to  Monday 5 May 2025, and will continue to be sold at the Elgin base while stocks last.

With just over 200 bottles of each, both expressions are non-chill filtered and were initially matured in  American oak casks before being finished in barrels which once held Canadian maple syrup. The unpeated  version (59% ABV) is smooth and dessert-like, with notes of sticky toffee, brown sugar and vanilla fudge. The  peated bottling (59.1% ABV) adds gentle smoke to layers of treacle, smoked spice and maple glaze, creating a  bold and balanced profile.

Iain Allan, Global Brand Ambassador at Glen Moray said:

“We’re always exploring new cask finishes to push the boundaries of flavour. These limited-edition maple  syrup casks are a bold example — the maple influence is immediate and unmistakable: rich, syrupy

sweetness that adds depth and indulgence, while still allowing the Glen Moray character to shine  through.

“The unpeated spirit brings out those classic dessert-like notes — fudge, toasted nuts, soft spice — while  the peated version is a different experience altogether. The smoke and syrup play off each other nicely,  creating a bold and layered dram that’s both sweet and savoury. We love surprising people at Spirit of  Speyside—these playful, flavour-packed bottlings show our curiosity as distillers and prove that even  after 125 years, we’re still finding new ways to bring flavour to life.”

Those attending the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival 2025 will have a unique opportunity to try the  new expressions. Glen Moray will also be hosting a range of events including ‘Breakfast Tours’, ‘Boozy  Brunch Tastings’, ‘Cask Origin Stories’ and exclusive sessions with Whisky Talks.

Since its establishment in 1897 in Elgin, Speyside, Glen Moray has been crafting exceptional single malts  and is a true a pioneer in exploring the transformative impact of wood on whisky flavour—a legacy  embodied in this exciting new release. That very tradition and exploration is encapsulated in its motto,  “Cask Explorer Since 1897.”

Glen Moray’s Peated Maple Cask (59.1% ABV) and it’s Unpeated Maple Cask (59% ABV) will be available  at its distillery from 30 April, RRP £90.
