Compass Box Hedonism Blended Scotch Whisky

let’s begin

Compass Box’s most famous and well-loved dram, Hedonism is a brilliant blend that will swiftly become your new favourite.

Signature Blend

Compass Box was founded over 20 years ago and Hedonism was one of their first releases. The company was set up to be innovative and different, and with Hedonism they have certainly achieved that.

Founded by John Glaser in 2000, Compass Box was based on the idea of the blending houses that used to be common in Scotland. Blending houses would buy whisky from distilleries and blend it themselves, to create a sellable product under their own brands. Compass Box does something similar, a practice which is becoming more and more popular these days.

Glaser took a look at the Scotch industry and decided it needed a bit of a shakeup. That’s just what he did when Compass Box was formed. Since then they have explored new concepts in whisky, including how many whiskies it takes to make a good blend (just 2 apparently) and different maturation techniques.

Legendary Blend

Hedonism was thought of as a great blend from the get go, 20 years ago. This is a great testament to the talent at Compass Box and the blend has certainly beaten the test of time. Since it’s inception it has been re-released in multiple different versions, each celebrating something new. This includes Compass Box’s own 10th and 20th anniversaries.

Each limited edition has been highly sought after and enjoyed by whisky enthusiasts. And even still the original expression endures to be one of Compass Box’s most poplar blends.

Tasting notes for Compass Box Hedonism Blended Scotch Whisky

Bottle cost: £47.88

The nose begins with fruity flavours, caramel and oak wood. It is well developed and slightly spicy. The sweetness is full of vanilla and soft summer fruits.

The palate is rich and brings in more spice. Oak wood also appears, with crisp apples and pears. Cinnamon, nutmeg and more vanilla give it a well rounded body. Darker notes of bitter chocolate and amaretto come through too.

The finish has a hint of coconut, which is bright and refreshing.

Hedonism is a brilliant blend and it should be of no surprise to those who taste it just why it has become so popular.

  1. Have to agree Greg. Tried it for the first time last night on a Dram Team tasting. The coconut at the end was gorgeous, lovely whisky as is the Irish JJ Corry The Hanson. Similar but different. Slainte
