Hailing from the legendary Buffalo Trace Distillery in Kentucky, Blanton’s Gold Edition Bourbon is a gem in the Buffalo Trace crown.

Going way back

Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon has a long history behind. It was first created by Elmer T. Lee, who was Buffalo Trace’s Master Distiller at the time. Lee is well known by fans of Buffalo Trace and even has a Bourbon named after him, the Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel.

Lee crafted Blanton’s Single Barrel in 1984 to celebrate Colonel Albert B. Blanton, who was the former president of the Distillery and would often spend time in the warehouses, handpicking barrels the team could enjoy together.

Blanton’s also happens to be world’s first Single Barrel Bourbon, making it incredibly rare and even more of an exceptional whiskey.

There are a total of three expression under the Blanton’s name; Blanton’s Single Barrel, Blanton’s Gold and Blanton’s Straight from the Barrel. They can be difficult to come by, on account of their rarity, but once you get your hands on one, you’ll not regret it.

Tasting notes for Blanton’s Gold Edition Single Barrel Bourbon

The nose begins with big notes of rye and tobacco. It is warming and spicy, bringing together sweet notes od caramel, vanilla and thick honey with a spicy heat. Citrus fruits also appear to give is a nice zesty note.

The palate is rich and complex, heavy on honey and full of oak wood. Again, there is a lovely spicy flavour to it and an elegant caramel flavour. Oak wood, with more heat and a fantastic vanilla burst bring out more complex and sophisticated flavours.

The finish lingers on oak, vanilla and honey with a final note of rye spice.

Blanton’s Gold is an exceptional Bourbon. The body is smooth and mellow, but with a richness and complexity of a high end, luxury Scotch. Well worth keeping an eye out for.
