let’s begin
Another release for the Exceptional Cask series, and a truly great malt.
The Dewar's Aberfeldy Distillery
With the Exceptional Cask series, Aberfeldy has released small batch single malts, hand selected by Master Distiller Stephanie Macleod. The collection is a great way to get to know the distilleries and explore some rare and exclusive bottlings.
Aberfeldy 28 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
This release in particular is a really exciting expression. Aberfeldy, in the Highlands region of Scotland, is known as the “spiritual home of Dewar’s”, its where they have the visitor centre and the World of Dewar’s, where you can learn everything you ever wanted to know about the brand.
This bottling was distilled in 1988, when it was first laid down to mature. A full 28 years later, it was bottled and released to be enjoyed Only 222 bottles were made from the cask, so its definitely a rare one.
Tasting notes for Aberfeldy 28 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottle cost: £146.73
The nose begins with a refreshin note of malted grains and citrus fruits. It is lively and bright. Sweeter notes of chocolate, cinnamon and pastry crusts also appear and give a nicesoft edge to the nose.
The palate is smooth like honey, with caramel, custard and treacle flavours. It is thick and mellow on the body, which really brings out the sweeter notes. There is also a wonderful spice that adds warmth to the overall flavour. Oak comes in towards the end and really wraps the flavours together.
It finishes on more honey and oak, which is elegant and flavoursome.
At 28 years old, this is one of the older malts in the Exceptional Cask series and really stands out for its quality. The smoothness of the body is outstanding and a testament to the excellent malt made here. We can see why Dewar’s have made it their flagship distillery.

Hi Greg
I have to agree with you about the Aberfeldy 28 year old Exceptional Cask. I bought Cask number 126. Loved it so much I bought two more. I have a dilemma though. Both bottles are labeled 1 of 222 and both bottled in April 2017. Any idea what’s going on here? Extremely concerning. Look forward to your response.
No idea… that is strange isn’t it?! Can be that they part bottled a cask then did the rest another time… we do that from time to time… no idea about Aberfeldy tho.
