Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with Redbreast and new food platform, StarChefs

let’s begin

Since Lockdown One in March 2020, Kirsty & I have ordered many Michelin Starred means to be delivered to our place to enjoy restaurant quality meals whilst unable to actually visit restaurants. Some have been great (Hawksmoor and Hickories), others less so (Antona At Home), but this one, sent to us by Redbreast to celebrate St. Patrick's Day genuinely blew us away.

Available for nationwide delivery, the St Patrick’s Day box, which is being supported by Redbreast premium Irish whiskey, can be pre-ordered from the StarChefs website. The box will be available in limited numbers for delivery from Wednesday 17th – Saturday 20th March.

Each box will include four courses of indulgent and refined comfort dishes designed to evoke nostalgia around Robin’s experiences of growing up in Ireland, and to celebrate the exceptional produce he takes pride in sourcing.

Diners can expect to enjoy County Cork Gubbean & smoked haddock gougèresLondon-cured Secret Smokehouse salmon served with Robin’s soda bread, and wild Atlantic seaweed butter. The undoubtable star of the meal will be rich beef & bone marrow pie to share, topped with a luxurious croissant pastry, which comes with a cast iron skillet included, and is served with sides of Kerrygold butter mashed potato and pot-roast cabbage with kale crisps. A finale of Pump Street chocolate mousse with sea salt & Redbreast whiskey caramel will round off the occasion.

When the kit arrived, man alive there were a lot of components – felt a tad overwhelming actually – but once they were loaded into the fridge until we were ready to start following the instructions to create each dish it felt doable and quite exciting.

Both of us have Irish family, so love Irish food and drink, making this an awesome meal kit to receive as we have not had authentic Irish food for quite a while due to the pandemic.

Particularly exciting was the 60ml measure of Redbreast 12 Year Old Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, as well as a Redbreast-based Old Fashioned cocktail for each of us, which were both put into the fridge too waiting their enjoyment at the start of the meal.

Kirsty was the one charged with bringing this masterpiece together as, frankly, she is way better at making meals that are actually brilliant than I… plus I was hosting back to back private whisky tastings so swanned back into the house with the meal already prepped and awaiting my gleeful consumption.

The smoked salmon, oh wow it was fresh, full of vibrant flavour and perfectly presented with stunning soda bread and an accompanying Irish playlist for Spotify too which I managed to get playing through Alexa which made the whole meal even more chilled and enjoyable.

Then the pie, oh the pie, and the mash, Christ alive it was not good but exceptional; neither of us wanted it to end, and we are both already toying buying a box for ourselves for next week !

Now, the food was by far the most flavoursome and definitely had the highest quality ingredients we have had from any of the aforementioned restaurant meal deliveries, but the one gripe would probably be the instructions as they did not seem totally complete and, especially with the pie, could have done with some imagery to help with the creation of the dish itself.

That aside though, the food itself was delightful and the portions are incredibly generous… anyone who knows us will know that it is very rare for us to not finish a meal but we just couldn’t ! The dessert is in the fridge for consumption today with whatever we end up having for dinner later.

The kits are available for ordering here, and I implore you to do so… definitely the best meal we have had delivered and cannot wait to try whatever Starchefs put together next too.

Thank you very much to Redbreast for providing the meal for us to try, whilst it was provided free I assure you that we were so taken by it that we are still talking about it a couple days later.
