Highland Park ORKNEYINGA LEGACY Single Malt Scotch Whisky

let’s begin

Released in earlier this year, Highland Park Orkneyinga Legacy is not an easy dram to forget. It is packed with both flavour and history, and at only £55 per bottle, it is a steal. The Brand

The BRAND

Highland Park have their roots firmly embedded in Orkney, the island at the very top of Scotland. They intertwine their Whisky and the legends of the island, especially of its Norse history, creating a great malt and a great story to go with it.

And that is exactly why they have released Orkneyinga Legacy. This malt is a wonderful celebration of Orkney, and some of the proceeds will go to support The Orkneyinga Saga Centre that maintains some of the island’s oldest monuments.

The centre tells the story of the first Earls who ruled on Orkney after the Norse invasion. It is an important to the cultural heritage of Orkney, a mantle picked up by Highland Park.

And they’ve chosen an especially good malt to celebrate their past.

Tasting notes for the Orkneyinga Legacy Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Bottle cost: £128

Bottled at marrying strength of 46% ABV, Orkneyinga Legacy has been inspired by the brand’s 12 Year Old Viking Honour malt.

It is a light and floral dram with a wonderful whiff of the distillery’s typical pet smoke in the background.

The nose opens with lots of honey, apples and pears, giving it a lovely orchard tone from the beginning. Dried fruits and notes of honeysuckle and blossom are also present.

These become bolder on the palate, with lots more dried fruit notes and a rich stream of honey throughout.

Tangy oranges and tangerines add a bit of zest to the overall flavour. They bring out a fruitcake note that is full of raisins, apricots, treacle and cinnamon notes.

The peat smoke is wonderfully rich and thoroughly enjoyable. It does not overwhelm the sweeter notes but lets them all breath around it.

The finish is bold, with more peat and orange zest.

What better way to pay tribute to an amazing island than with an equally amazing malt.
