Now, if you’ve been following the Great Drams blogs over the last few years, you’ll probably know that I’m not the biggest fan of modern technology. Don’t get me wrong, I know how useful it can be and I own my fair share of gadgets and gizmos, but I am a bit of a technophobe.
So, when a friend of mine suggested I listen to a podcast based entirely about whisky, you can imagine how I reacted. Nevertheless, they assured me that I’d enjoy it and may even find it handy for work. So, one Friday night after a long week at work, I decided to give it a bash. I poured myself a wee dram, sat in my comfy chair, headed over to their YouTube page, and pressed play. I was hooked.
These days whisky podcasts are a regular part of my routine, for work, for relaxing, and everything in between. What I love about whisky podcasts is the fact that there’s so much choice. There are podcasts from independent bottlers, podcasts for bourbon drinkers, podcasts for Scotch enthusiasts, and loads more. They’re educational, entertaining, informative, and very useful.
If you’re just looking to get into whisky podcasts, here are 4 suggestions that make for easy listening for whisky lovers.
One of the most common requests we get here at Great Drams is for a whisky that would be perfect for people that want to get into whisky. As you can see from the name of this podcast, ‘I Want to Like Whisky’ is perfect.
The podcast is hosted by Rob Patchett the Global Whisky Ambassador for the Cotswolds Distillery. It regularly features different guests from the world of whisky, including names such as Jack Wareing, The Whisky Sisters, and First Phil. You can listen on Spotify and a plethora of other streaming sites.
I’m recommending this podcast because it’s a great gateway into whisky, but don’t worry, it’s just as entertaining and useful for seasoned whisky drinkers as well. Rob and his guests chat about all manner of different whisky topics. He’ll discuss what’s going on in the world of whisky, the spirits business in general, how to make whisky more enjoyable for people unsure about whisky, how to spruce up your drams, and so much more besides.
The Whisky Sisters
What do you get when you cross a Glasgow-based whisky connoisseur with a seasoned spirits writer from Finland who share a passion for whisky and Guns ‘n’ Roses? You get one of the most popular whisky podcasts currently available.
The Whisky Sisters podcast is hosted by Glasgow’s Jennifer Rose, and Finland’s Inka Larissa and is gaining more listeners every single day. Inka and Jennifer discuss a wide range of different whisky topics, and help give the beloved dram a more modern feel.
The fan favourites delve deep into the latest news and goings on in the whisky world. Along with a selection of special guests, they’ll chat about different distilleries and will share fun facts that whisky lovers are bound to appreciate. You’ll learn fun facts about some of the world’s different distilleries, the history behind your favourite drams, what got them into whisky, and plenty more. On top of that, they’ll also share some handy whisky tips too and will cover the basics of whisky, such as the nosing and tasting.
The Whisky Sisters podcast is definitely a fan favourite, and if you love your whisky history, facts, and tips presented to you in a relaxed and humorous tone, with a light sprinkling of bad language, you’ll absolutely love it.
Sometimes life can get a bit too serious, and it can be nice to slow down, take a step back, and lose yourself in something you find fun, enjoyable, and easy to watch and listen to. Uncut and Unfiltered is the perfect podcast to do just that.
If you want your whisky content to be snobby and pretentious, look elsewhere because this isn’t the podcast for you. Uncut and Unfiltered is presented by members of The Whisky Baron team, with each episode looking at different distilleries and/or brands of whisky. It features three slightly intoxicated whisky lovers, with the occasional special guest.
What I love about this podcast is how simple and relaxed it is. The hosts love whisky, they enjoy what they do, and ultimately, they want to help grow the industry. They’ll discuss the latest whisky news, look at new releases, and will review different drams. They also provide a simple ‘BUY’ or ‘DO NOT BUY’ rating.
The language can be pretty foul, and things can sometimes get rowdy, but if you just want to watch or listen to a podcast hosted by three blokes who you could be sat with around a table at a pub, it’s perfect. Oh, and full disclaimer, the views and opinions expressed in the podcast do not represent those of Whisky Baron Ltd.
When I’m in “work mode” and want to learn things about whisky that could ultimately benefit the Great Drams brand, I like to listen to the Not Another Whisky Podcast show.
The podcast is widely regarded as one of the most informative whisky podcasts currently available. Hosted by industry experts Mitch Bechard and Daryl ‘Daz’ Haldane, who between them have more than four decades of experience, it’s the perfect gateway into the world of whisky.
Daz and Mitch cover a variety of different whisky subjects and regularly chat with huge names behind some of the world’s most famous whisky brands and whisky content. Think names like Dave Broom, Ardbeg’s Colin Gordon, Alan Winchester, and heaps more. They’ll chat about things like the future of whisky, their favourite drams, their favourite distilleries, whisky’s history, and so much more.
For those who want an informative, light-hearted yet professional podcast about whisky, hosted by whisky experts and featuring industry leaders, the Not Another Whisky Podcast is the pod you’ve been waiting for.
