St George’s Distillery The English Triple Distilled Single Malt Whisky

let’s begin

The new batch of the Norfolk distillery’s brilliantly crafted Triple Distilled Single Malt Whisky, The English, is capturing the spirit of England.

The English Triple Distilled Edition

Opened in 2006, St George’s Distillery, owned by The English Whisky Co,. was one of the first distilleries to bring whisky distilling back to England. While the craft was once quite common across England, it died away in the 1800s.

The English Whisky Co. wanted to change that and when they opened St George’s, the malt spoke for itself. Led by David Fitt, who is Chief Whisky Maker, the distillery has been creating great malts for a while now.

As well as having a solid core range, the distillery has a Grain Whisky and often creates limited editions. Rather fittingly named The English, their single malt collection has a wonderful range of malts, including Bourbon and Rum casks finished expressions. Their Triple Distilled Single Malt is one of their limited expressions and is released in small batches, making it an extra rare and exclusive whisky.

The 2021 Batch

This year’s release was distilled in 2013, giving it a ripe old age of 8, having been bottled in 2021. There are only 1532 bottles of this batch available, so get in there quick!

In a similar vein to Irish malts, or some Lowland Scotches, the malt has been triple distilled, giving it a smooth and mellow mouth feel. It really allows the character of the malt to come through.

Tasting notes for St George’s Distillery The English Triple Distilled Single Malt Whisky

Bottle cost: £47.08

The nose begins with big summery notes of berries, orchard fruits and honey. The aroma is complex and sweet with a hint of tart blackberries. A slightly lighter note of oak wood and vanilla also comes through.

The palate is smooth and easy going. Summer berries add a tart edge that is softened by more honey and caramel. It is rich and elegant. The oak wood is strong and goes well with more fruit notes. Fennel, thyme and basil give it a nice fresh flavour.

The finish is light and full of honey and oak.

This is a champion malt with all the trappings of a high quality whisky. It captures the light body of triple distilled whisky well and beings out intriguing flavours at the same time.
