Slane Irish Whiskey Review
Whisky/whiskey is a beverage that just seems to get better and better with age.
One thing we particularly love about whiskey, is the fact that there is something out there for everybody. For the true purists who love the burn and harshness you get from fiery whisky, Scotch is of course ideal. For those who enjoy a more subtle flavour and mixing their whiskey, bourbon is great, and for those who like something in the middle, Irish whiskey is perfect.
Now, when you think of Irish whiskey, names like Jameson and Conor McGregor’s ‘Proper Twelve’ are some of the first names to spring to mind for casual whiskey drinkers. For those who truly appreciate this amazing blend however, Slane Irish Whiskey certainly takes some beating.
Slane Irish Whiskey
Made from a combination of 100% Irish barley, yeast, and mineral-rich water from the River Boyne, which runs along the distillery and the estate on which it sits, Slane whiskey is a drink suitable for all occasions.
For centuries, the Boyne Valley was at the heart of whiskey distilling. As the years went by however, the ancient art form slowly began to die down. Slane however, revived the ancient art of whiskey distilling when they opened their distillery back in 2015, and they haven’t looked back since.
Their triple-cask blends are like nothing you will have ever experienced before, and we’re extremely excited to see what they have in store for us next.
Slane Triple Casked Irish Whiskey
This blend of grain and malt whiskeys blended expertly together is one of the company’s best-selling whiskeys.
The whiskey is first matured in virgin oak casks with a very light char to give the whiskey some body. Next, it spends some time in seasoned Tennessee whiskey barrels before finally finishing the process in Oloroso sherry casks.
At 40% this is considerably milder on the palate, as you would expect from an Irish whiskey. The whiskey certainly has plenty of legs however, and takes on a gorgeous golden yellow hue from the wooden casks it is matured in.
On the nose, toasted oak is instantly recognisable, along with strong vanilla and butterscotch notes, and a hint of nutmeg.
On the palate, the spice of the whiskey quickly fades, giving you a very smooth beverage complete with notes of sticky figs and dates. The sticky fruit flavours are complimented by caramel and vanilla beans.
The finish is decidedly smooth with lingering sweet oak notes and a whispering of dried fruits.

Inspired by the first Slane Castle Concert that took place in 1981, hosted by Lord Henry Conyngham, this special edition is perfect for those who prefer a more oaky flavour to their whiskey. Again triple-casked, this blend uses more of the virgin oak casks to give more of a toasted and charred flavour.
At 45%, it’s stronger than the regular blend and has more of an amber colour to it. It’s certainly aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. You’ll be pleased to hear that it tastes even better than it looks!
On the nose, the charred oak is there right away, along with winter spices, pears, and vanilla.
On the palate, you get toasted marshmallow with molasses, layers of scorched oak, and rich sticky dates and prunes.
The finish is smooth, with yet more smoky wood notes.
