Tasting notes for Glendronach Batch 17 Cask 5896
This is a really rich and elegant dram. It opens with mahogany wood, tobacco and almonds. The sweetness is perfect alongside the darker notes. Oranges abound and lend a nice zesty tang. They go especially well with the wooded flavours.
The palate is slightly floral, reigning in the heavier notes. The overall flavour is full saccharine with but dark, with more deep woods and dried leaves. Hints of tree bark with fresh cut grass add a nice earthy level. The citrus and cherries bring in a lovely sweetness.
The finish rounds off well with dashes of treacle and lots more wooded tones.
This is a dram that brings together some incredible flavours. The darkness and sweetness go together in perfect harmony. Well worth tracking down a bottle, even if you end up in New Zealand to get it.
