let’s begin
A really exciting release from a relatively new distillery in Glasgow, this Blended Malt will become your new favourite.
The Glasgow Distillery Company
There hadn’t been a working distillery in Glasgow in decades, until the Glasgow Distillery Company opened their site in 2014. Taking inspiration from the distillery that was established in the city in 1770, the new company creates a whole range of spirits. As well as whisky, they make gin, vodka and rum. The range is extensive and the quality is excellent.
Their whisky production expands across different categories including Single Malt, Blended Malt and a special peated series from an anonymous Speyside distillery. It’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into each collection and they are all unique.
Malt Riot Blended Malt
Named after the anti-taxation riots by Glasgow’s malt makers in 1725, this expression is an excellent example of high quality blended malt. Blended malt differs from standards blended whisky in that no grain whisky is used, only single malt.
The Malt Riot Blended Malt Scotch Whisky released by Glasgow Distillery Company is full of flavour. It has a smooth body and a rich flavour profile.
Tasting Notes for Malt Riot Blended Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottle cost: £25
The nose opens with rick notes of vanilla and caramel. Oak wood also come through and adds a lovely earthy quality to the flavours. The aromas are really complex and sweet, with notes of blossom appearing.
The palate is full of body. Orchards fruits such as apples and pears are joined by caramels, toffee and a rich vanilla note. Again, it is very complex and there are a lot of different notes to be uncovered. More exotic, tangy fruits appear, such as pineapple, and the caramel is thick and sweet.
The nose rounds off with more fruit and a wonderful note of oak wood.
An excellent release from Glasgow Distillery that really showcases what they can do.

Great review Greg and I was really impressed by this. I was given a sample in a blind tasting and it really reminded me of Bimber new make, with their very fruity and grape filled nose & palate. A little thin on the taste but a great blend for the price. Have ordered a bottle straight away! Cheers
