let’s begin
Jameson having been wowing customers with their Caskmates range and the new Fourpure collaboration looks like it will do the same.
The Caskmates Range
With the explosion of new Whiskey distilleries in Ireland, big names like Jameson have had to be innovative to defend their titles. The Jameson brand is perhaps the best known Irish whiskey around the world. But the crop of new distilleries entering the market means they are being kept on their toes.
Enter the Caskmates Range. This is a collection of malts made by Jameson that is breaking new ground for the brand and the Irish whiskey category. It is a series of whiskies made in collaboration with Jameson and other drinks makers.
So far they have created a stout edition and an IPA edition, both in collaboration with local Irish craft brewery Franciscan Well. These whiskies represented new ways of maturation for the Irish whiskey market but that doesn’t make them unique. Other brands have done similar experiements, with Glenfiddichs Experimental series and their IPA cask matured malt being a notable example.
Tasting notes for Jameson Caskmates Fourpure Edition Single Malt Irish Whiskey
This edition of Caskmates sees the distillery move over the water to London, to join with Fourpure Brewery. The final creation is known as the Fourpure edition and the whiskey has been matured inside barrels that were used to age Fourpure’s Shape Shifter IPA.
The nose begins with notes of oak wood, hops and exotic fruits. It has a sweet pineapple and apricot aroma that adds a real saccharine edge to it. This melts into the wood of the barrel and the bitterness of the hops.
The palate is more distinguished, with big notes of citrus fruits and orchard notes. There is a delicate hint of vanilla and caramel as well. Grapefruits add a nice citrusy tang alongside mangoes and more apricots. The sweetness is perfectly matched by the hops and oak wood, which give them a nice backdrop to bounce off.
The finish lingers on hops and oak wood.
