let’s begin
A key member of the BenRiach range, the 10 Year Old is a great Whisky, with lots of character and charm.
The Brand
BenRiach have been around since 1898, when they were set up by John Duff. They are right at the heart of Speyside and represent the typical Speyside character, with lots of Sherry. Their BenRiach 10 Year Old is no exception.
They are nestled at the foothills of the Cairngorms Mountains, and the name itself means Speckled Mountain in Gaelic.
The distillery of late has been owned by Billy Walker, who is somewhat of a legend in the Scotch industry. He bought it in 2004, alongside partners, and created an innovative and entrepreneurial distillery.
Then in 2016, he sold it for an incredible £285 million to Brown Forman, who also own The GlenDronach, Glenglassaugh and a handful of American and Canadian brands.
The BenRiach 10 Year Old Single Malt Whisky
The BenRiach 10 Year Old is an integral part of the BenRiach family. It has been matured in Sherry and Bourbon casks, giving it a sweet and spicy flavour profile.
Tasting notes for the BenRiach 10 Year Old Single Malt Whisky
Bottle cost: £38.95
The nose opens with citrus fruits and cinnamon. There is a slightly earthy note that is refreshing and crisp. It has a delicious edge of oak wood and vanilla, with a hint of tropical fruits.
The palate is equally mouth watering and full of sweet notes. Cramel, vanilla and dried fruit run riot over the taste buds but really bring the dram to life.
Oak wood, cinnamon and a hint of cloves add a lovely depth, with a slightly aromatic touch. More tropical fruits, with brown sugar, spices and malted grains add a bit of variation and allow the oak to really shine against them.
The finish is bold and elegant, with more oak and caramel.
This is a really excellent malt that combines the best aspects of Speyside drams. Definitely worth trying to experience the distillery and the best of the region as well.
