We can’t tell you which distillery made this. What we can tell you is that the first time we nosed it we thought: bonfire on a cold night. Embers felt like the only name.

TASTING NOTES
Mellow peat smoke, not medicinal aggression. This is smoke you lean into rather than brace against. Sea salt lifts it, then citrus zest and soft vanilla come through underneath. The Islay cask has added character, not fire. The faint ghost of bonfire embers as things cool confirms exactly where this sits: approachable, warm, considered.
This is where the mellow profile makes its case. The smoke is present throughout but it never takes over. Sea salt sits savoury in the mid-palate, vanilla builds quietly behind it, and the overall impression is of balance rather than intensity. If you’ve avoided peated whisky because you expected a fight, Embers is the one that changes that.
Long and warming, fading like actual embers: the heat goes slowly, the glow stays. Clean and dry, fading slowly and well.

WHY THIS CASK
We look for smoke only when it’s doing something interesting. An Islay cask finish on a non-Islay single malt produces a specific result: smoke as a complement rather than the entire character. The base spirit was chosen because it had enough substance to carry the Islay influence without being overwhelmed. The distillery will stay undisclosed. That’s not evasion. It’s an agreement we honour. GD-EM-26 tells the story on its own terms.

Getting smoke right so it’s present without overwhelming the base spirit takes judgement. Medicinal peat, sea salt, citrus zest, vanilla and bonfire embers all coexisting. That’s the case.
