— A NOTE FROM GREG & KIRSTY —

We looked for an aged Invergordon single grain for years. Most of what comes out of that distillery never surfaces as a named single cask. When this one did, ex-sherry, 20 years, 48.2%, it was worth the wait. Two Silver medals later, we’re confident it wasn’t just us.

TASTING NOTES

NOSE

Immediately inviting. Creamy toffee and fudge are the dominant first impressions, the character of long-aged grain whisky that the ex-sherry cask has enriched rather than transformed. Plump winter berries, candied orange peel with cinnamon. A whisper of smoke in the background, not from peat, from 20 years of oak. This smells like something that took a long time… It did.

PALATE

Soft and layered. The sherry cask has added dark fruit, prune, dried fig, and a richness that sits alongside the grain’s natural creaminess. The London Spirits Competition noted ‘plum, prunes, savoury and smoke with a smooth, long finish.’ That’s accurate. The texture is what separates aged grain from younger expressions. There’s a density here that comes only from time.

FINISH

Long and genuinely satisfying. Spice builds slowly and stays. The fruit recedes first, the warm oakiness last. This is a finish that rewards patience. Don’t rush to the next sip.

THE RIGHT BOTTLE IF…

You’re a single malt drinker who has never taken single grain seriously. This is the bottle that changes that. 20 years and a sherry cask do things that youth and bourbon oak simply cannot

You want competition-validated quality. Two Silver medals from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the London Spirits Competition in the same year is independent confirmation from two different judging panels

You’re looking for a gift that is genuinely rare. An ex-sherry, 20 Year Old, single cask Invergordon grain whisky from 2002 is not something anyone already has. 500 bottles globally confirms the rarity isn’t marketing language

WHY THIS CASK

Invergordon’s production is almost entirely blending stock. Whyte and Mackay takes the vast majority of it, which means single cask releases are uncommon and aged ones are genuinely rare. Greg and Kirsty had been looking for the right Invergordon cask for years before this one surfaced. A 2002 distillation in an ex-sherry cask, coming up to its 20th year. The sherry influence had integrated beautifully. We bottled it in November 2022. Both competitions we entered it in came back with Silver. 500 bottles exist.

THE DISTILLERY, HONESTLY

Invergordon is a Highland grain distillery that has been producing since 1961 and has capacity that most malt distilleries would find hard to comprehend. The scale is what makes it commercially vital and personally invisible. Almost nobody outside the industry knows the name. That’s an opportunity for people who pay attention. Aged Highland grain whisky in a sherry cask, from a distillery with this much history, is not a compromise. It’s a genuinely different kind of Scotch.

THE CASE FOR THIS BOTTLE

Greg & Kirsty’s argument for why this cask earned its place in the range.

POINT 1

Two Silver medals from two credible competitions in the same year means two sets of independent, blind-tasting judges both found this worthy of the podium… that’s not luck and at this price and this age, it’s remarkable value

POINT 2

We searched for this cask for years. That’s not a figure of speech. Greg and Kirsty specifically wanted an aged Invergordon single grain and it took years to find the right one; the patience is in the bottle

POINT 3

500 bottles globally is the total. Not 500 in the UK, 500 everywhere. A distilled-in-2002, bottled-in-2022, ex-sherry, non-chill filtered, natural colour single cask Invergordon grain whisky is waiting for you

YOUR FIRST POUR

Neat with an ice cube or two. The cold slows the alcohol, and the fruit and caramel open beautifully as the ice melts. Single grain responds differently to temperature than single malt. The ice is not a compromise here

North Sea Oil cocktail: 50ml Invergordon 20, a small measure of Drambuie, over ice. The honey in the Drambuie and the toffee in the grain are natural companions

Old Fashioned: the rich, dark fruit character makes this an excellent base. Use orange peel. The citrus note in the whisky amplifies it perfectly
